How to Style Gingham this Spring

One of Spring’s biggest up and coming trends is that of gingham. Of course gingham has been runway popular for the past few S/S seasons; however, I find it to be a particularly highlighted trend this 2017 season. I could be wrong, but I feel as if gingham is one of those patterns that you either love or hate with no in between. For myself personally, I absolutely love the print and am overjoyed to see Dorothy’s signature look returning to street wear. But, on the other hand, I can understand people’s interpretation of the pattern as a wearable table cloth. I suppose that’s the beauty of individuality within current trends. Same goes for various other patterns and prints. For instance, I find it funny that I’m a huge fan of gingham, but I wouldn’t dare be caught wearing plaid outside of the bedroom- when both patterns are so similar in style and on trend.

For today’s outfits, Jorja and I spent the afternoon at Fort Whyte Alive to bring you this picnic inspired shoot. As I wanted to style two different gingham looks for this post, and didn’t think of where I’d be able to change at Fort Whyte, I ended up changing in the outdoor teepee they had set up. Now I have changed in a lot of very strange locations for shoots, but none quite as strange as a public teepee. Haha. Either way, our shoots always lead to an adventure and I love it.

Look #1- Gingham Picnic

For the first look, I was inspired by the picnic-like pattern of the ensemble, and went ahead with a themed shoot. Call me cheesy, but I really love how these photos turned out (thanks again, Jorja!). By pairing this co-ord look with a pair of nude block heels, I was able to create the perfect summer picnic ensemble. Oh! And of course I included a basket and tulips. Well, they were tulips before all of the petals decided to fall off en route to Fort Whyte..

Look #2- Railway Gingham

If you haven’t already noticed, I felt extra creative (Mitch would instead use the words cheesy or quirky) while writing this post, and decided to create a themed title for each look. Ie: the “Railway Gingham” and the “Picnic Gingham”. Hate me for it if you will, but I think it’s kind of cute!

So, for this “Railway Gingham” look, I paired a high neck gingham printed dress with my JORD wood watch, and the same nude mid heels that I’ve been sporting non-stop this Spring. I’ll link the details for the watch here. I have been all about high necklines this season, as they create such an elegant Victorian detail. I find them to be so feminine; yet, so strong at the same time- because girls are SUPER strong! I’ll be posting a lot more of this trendy cut, so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any posts!

While at Fort Whyte Alive, Jorja and I stumbled across an old abandoned railway in the midst of the forest. Well, we couldn’t not shoot there with it’s rustically historic charm; it practically screamed the perfect photoshoot location! See for yourself below.

Tropical Printed Dress

As themed as it probably sounds, I ended up packing a lot of tropical prints in my vacay luggage to the Dominican Republic. And, to be quite honest, I’m not a tad bit ashamed of my cliché wardrobe. Just as I wear pink on Valentine’s Day, and sequins on New Year’s Eve, I wear tropical prints on a tropical vacay.

This particular tropical off the shoulder dress that I’m wearing was purchased through J Crew last season. Unfortunately, they no longer carry it, but you can find similar tropical printed off the shoulder looks herehere, here and here (in order of the images pictured below).

For the past couple years I have been all about off the shoulder looks, and I am ever so happy that this trend is continuing right into the 2017 S/S season. There’s something so casually feminine about sporting this simple look, and it’s so easy to dress up or down! Pair an off the shoulder dress with heels and a slicked back bun for a girls’ night out on the town, or throw it over a bikini with wind blown locks for an effortless beachy look. The versatility is endless!

Below I’ve included some photos featuring this Rati print dress from J Crew, enjoy!

3 Swim Wear Looks Perfect for the Beach/ DR Vacay!

Over the week of March 2nd to 9th, Mitch and I resided at the Viva V Heavens Wyndham resort in the beautiful Dominican Republic. Of course I have many tropical outfits and stories to share with you all, so consider this one post of many!

Prior to our departure, I was sent various bathing suits from the company Zaful to wear whilst on vacay. Now, I have heard numerous complaints regarding Zaful’s poor quality of clothing and customer service, so I was fairly eery when contacting the company. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the products upon arrival… once they finally arrived that is. It took about a month and a half for the packages to come in, and when they did come in, they all arrived in separate packages for some odd reason. Although all of my packages came in, and all of the pieces were of decent quality, I still don’t recommend purchasing through Zaful. I’ve just read too many negative comments regarding their customer service, and I wouldn’t want to steer any of my readers in the wrong direction! So many individuals have claimed that Zaful is known for sending their “good quality” items to fashion bloggers/ influencers/ YouTubers so that they’ll receive good reviews that promote their brand. Who knows if this is true, but why chance it. Anyways, let me know in the comments your thoughts regarding Zaful as a reputable company. For now though, take a peak into my vacay time in the DR!

PANMILLI Sun Hats

Prior to my departure to the beautiful country of the Dominican Republic, I was fortunate enough to receive two of PANMILLI’s stunning sun hats. I came across PANMILLI during a routine browse on Etsy; I’m always on the search for the cutest new shops to share with you all, and I instantaneously fell in love with their sequin embroidered sun hats! For years  now I have wanted a Eugenia Kim original but, not ready to drop $600 on a simple sun hat, decided against the purchase. As PANMILLI’s designs mirror those of Eugenia Kim, you can understand my excitement when planning our collaboration!

I’ve decided to come up with a list displaying all of the reasons behind my love for PANMILLI’s embroidered sun hats, so that you all can fall in love with them too. Without further adieu, let’s get into it!

Gorgeous Designs. For this point, I’m just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

IMG_2082IMG_2083

Hand Embroidered. Each sun hat by PANMILLI designs is hand embroidered using sequins of your colour choice; thus, allowing complete personalization. Irina, the owner, solely uses hand work for the lettering patterns on all of her orders.

IMG_2195IMG_2138IMG_2099IMG_2100IMG_2098Completely Customizable. Irina is able to embroider the specific lettering requests of each customer; thus, creating “one of a kind” designs. Choose your lettering pattern, your font, and your colours- it’s all up to you. I was so excited to receive my “Darling in Scarlet” sequin embroidered sun hat!

IMG_2184IMG_2174

Quality. When I first unboxed my hats upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by their thick straw structure. I find that with large brimmed sun hats it is often difficult to keep the front of the brim from wilting downwards and blocking your view; however, this was not the case with PANMILLI’s hats! The structured brims of the hats blocked the sun’s rays from my eyes, all while allowing my vision to remain uninterrupted.

IMG_2071

Canadian Based. As a Canadian citizen and blogger, I am more than thrilled when I get the opportunity to promote Canadian business’. Based out of Toronto, Ontario, PANMILLI is not only an amazing Etsy shop, but it’s also an amazing, local Etsy shop.

IMG_2189IMG_2198IMG_2163IMG_2196IMG_2191IMG_2108IMG_2169

I’ll leave the link to PANMILLI’s Etsy shop here, as well as the link to their Instagram feed here. Make sure to go give her pages a visit!

Winter Couple Photoshoot with Jozanna Theolynn

Another day, another couple shoot I drag Mitch to early in the morning. 7:30 in the morning to be exact. But what’s love if not to wake up early for each other, right? Funny enough, one of the most requested post topics I receive is that of couple shoots. People are just crazy about cute couple pictures, and I can’t really blame them. So; from now on, I plan to post the majority of the photos from Mitch and my shoots individually in addition to my fashion specific and themed posts. Prepare yourself for some ridiculously cute photos guys.

*All of these photos are courtesy of the very talented Jozanna Theolynn!!

Jorja Coral Photography Interview

If you’ve been following along with my blog and Instagram you’ve probably come across some of Jorja’s amazing photography. Upon launching my blog I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Jorja through Instagram in regards to collaborating. I had previously been a big fan of her photos, and so as you can imagine I was quite excited! Over the past couple of months I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Jorja on a more personal level, and believe me when I say she is one of the sweetest and most talented people I know. Recently I decided to conduct an interview with her to allow all of my followers and readers (so, you guys!) to get to know her a bit better. Let’s get into it!

How long have you had an interest for photography and when did you become serious about pursuing it as a career?

“I’ve always loved creating art in many different forms since I was a child. I was probably around 10 when my love for photography started to bloom. I’d take my family’s camera and just go off for hours creating ‘art’ with the landscapes around me. When I got my very first DSLR for Christmas one year, I started having friends ask if I could take their photos. This was new for me since my subjects before had always been nature. I fell in love with bringing out the beauty and personality of every person and making art through photos.”

Which photography school did you attend?

“I attended the Prairieview School of Photography Diploma Program. I learned so much in that eight months about how to control the outcome of my photos as well as what I wanted to pursue. The most valuable part though, was making connections with other local creatives that love photography as much as I do.”

What is your favourite photography style?

“I photograph a wide array of things, but what I am most passionate about is portraits, especially couples and weddings. I love showing people the beauty in authentic moments, and what is more beautiful and authentic than a wedding day or the love between a couple!”

Where is it that you see photography taking you, or where would you like it to take you?

“Photography has opened up so many doors for me to meet some amazing people and be a part of an awesome creative community that we have here in Winnipeg. I’d love to have my photos reach more people, particularly fine art portraitures in magazines or a gallery some day! As much as I’d love to see that play out, I’d say my biggest goal is simply to meet more beautiful people through my work, and have the opportunity to be inspired by couples in love and to be a part of many beautiful wedding days.”

Visit her website www.jorjacoralphotography.ca  or her Instagram page for more stunning shots!

Whether you are in need of a photographer for an upcoming wedding, or are just wanting to have some portraits taken, Jorja is your go-to girl! You want someone reliable to entrust with your most important memories, and that is exactly why I highly recommend Jorja to capture them for you.

My Valentine’s Day Outfit

Ahh Valentine’s Day- the day we celebrate all things love. For me, that indicates Mitch. Although I believe in celebrating each other’s love daily, it’s still nice to set aside a day specifically catered towards it. And hey, if you’re single this Valentine’s Day there are other loves in your life to celebrate: food, friends, wine. Take your pick! Better yet, combine all three for a fun single ladies’ Galentine’s night out (or in!).

So whether you’re celebrating with your special someone, or with your friends, you’re going to need some outfit inspiration. Well, look no further! This Valentine’s Day I chose to wear a baby pink body suit with a white tulle midi skirt. I tend to wear pink every Valentine’s Day- I know, how stereotypical of me- but this Valentine’s Day I not only wore it in lieu of the holiday, but also because it’s the hottest colour of the season. If you’ve been following along with my blog and Instagram (if not, get on it girl!), then you may have noticed my slight obsession with this season’s pastel pink trend. Most notably, my pastel pink wool coat. I love the fashion faux pas rebellion of sporting pastels in the winter months; how daring. Check below for this year’s Valentine’s Day Outfit Inspiration and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

P.S, if you’re wondering why the balloons seem to be deflating in the last photo, it’s because they are… helium and -30 temperatures don’t work well together!

Happy Valentine’s/ Galentine’s Day!

Sentimental Valentine’s Day Gifts for Your Sweetheart

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching I thought it would be appropriate to create a list of sentimental gifts to give your significant other. Over the years Mitch and I have exchanged various gifts that could just melt your heart- and so I’ve decided to share a few!

Firsts Canvas: Probably one of my favourite gifts I’ve ever given Mitch is this canvas pictured below. It is 100% customizable so you’re able to insert any memories you’d like. Your significant other will absolutely love it- I promise (Mitch actually started crying when he opened it.. he’s probably going to kill me once he reads this).

IMG_0933.JPG

Video: For Mitch’s 20th birthday he had asked for a montage of me dancing (in case you didn’t already know, I kind of like to dance). So, by the time his birthday had rolled around, I had prepared a full iMovie document to present him with. Not only did I include pieces of choreography, but I also incorporated various videos of us within the film. To this day he says it’s the best gift he’s ever received (and yes, he cried then too- he’s just a big softy).

“Our Story” Novel: For one Valentine’s Day I gifted Mitch with a story- “our” story to be exact. Within the pages I included the details of how we met and how we came to be us. It’s such a thoughtful gift to give, and what a cute way to share with your future children how your family came to be. The website Love Book Online includes complete customization through covers, images, text, and more. Definitely go check them out!

img_0935

Basket of His/ Her Favourite Things: This is the perfect gift for those who are difficult to shop for (everyone has that someone in their life). Stock up on your significant other’s favourite candies, chocolates, cologne, books, movies, etc., and place them all in one cute basket with a bow on top! They’ll appreciate the gesture, trust me. And if you want to up your gifting game you can always plan out a scavenger hunt scavenger hunt to lead them to the basket!

Custom Engraved Watch: This wooden engraved watch, purchased online through Cabany Co, was the gift I gave to Mitch this past Christmas. I love the look of the wood as a watch, as well as the option of customization. For Mitch’s watch I chose to engrave “I love you more every second- Red”, which made the gift that more special.

Your Time: Yet another great gift for those who are difficult to shop for is the gift of your time. Plan a whole day for just the two of you with some of their favourite activities. You’ll both have tons of fun and your sweetheart will swoon at how much effort and thought you put into their gift!

Stone Shadow Box: Okay so it was actually my mom that gifted this shadow box to Mitch and I for Christmas 2016, but I still really wanted to include it. I am honestly so in love with this idea as a gift for your significant other. My mom ordered this through Pebble Art by Denise and was able to personalize it to her liking through the entire creation process. I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite gifts to ever have received. It is the perfect statement piece for any home.

img_0936

“52 Reasons Why I Love You” Cards: For our very first Valentine’s Day together I made Mitch a box full of homemade gifts. As we were in a long distance relationship at the time, a lot of the items were catered towards our memories. For instance, I took a deck of cards and on each card I wrote down one of the reasons I loved him. I did this so that he could look at them when he missed me and when he needed some love. Long distance or not, this is a gift that your significant other will truly appreciate.
img_0932

A Good Ol’ Fashioned Love Letter: Mitch and I started writing love letters to each other during our time in a long distance relationship, and now it’s become one of my favourite gifts to receive. It’s such a simple and inexpensive gesture of affection that your significant other will appreciate immensely. Don’t be afraid to get mushy gushy!

Couple Photoshoot: Looking for a gift that will last a lifetime? Plan a surprise photoshoot for your love. You’ll have fun being silly and romantic while creating lasting memories! The photos below are courtesy of the very talented Kalina Denault from Kalina Denault Photography.

Custom Pillows/ Towels: Another great gift idea is to personalize some pillows or towels for the both of you. This adds a personal touch of love to your décor- creating a home out of a house. For example, Mitch is obsessed with his Jeep (and Jeeps in general) so, I got him a Jeep inspired pillow. I also got us (okay, mostly myself) these Good Morning Gorgeous/ Hello There Handsome pillow covers for our bed- SO cute. Both of these pillow cases can be found through Etsy! As for the towels, Mitch had these personally engraved for our second anniversary- the traditional second anniversary gift is cotton.

I hope this list of gifts gave you some inspiration for your significant other this Valentine’s Day. I always find that inexpensive gifts from the heart are far more special than expensive gifts (but that’s just my opinion).

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Ahh October, I still remember falling in love with this boutique at my high school’s 2010 fashion show. The selection and designs they offer are unmatched. October is undeniably one of my classic Winnipeg go-to’s, and I look forward to their new collections each season. Below I’ve included some of my current favourite items for purchase. Make sure to go check them out at 847 Corydon Ave!

Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue is a trendy local boutique that carries various apparel, jewelry, footwear, and home décor. Below I’ve attached some of my favourite pieces that they currently offer. You’re welcome to shop their online store through the link I’ve provided, or visit their physical address at 102 Osborne Street!

Kit & Ace

Yet another local classic.  Kit & Ace provides Winnipeg with the coziest of cozy apparel.. and I am HUGE on coziness. Feel the comforts of their functional clothing while looking ultra chic. I’ve included some photos below, enabling you to envision the coziness (because if coziness had a look, this would be it). Visit their showroom at 264 McDermot Avenue, or shop online through the link I’ve provided above!

Tharnzie

Located at 100 Osborne Street, Tharnzie carries various pieces of both formal and casual attire. If you’re ever near Osborne, I highly recommend you pop in for a visit.  You won’t be disappointed!

Hush & Shout

Hush & Shout is one label separated by design inspirations. Hush is reserved for their bridesmaid gown line, whereas Shout carries various fun and casual pieces. If you’re currently planning a wedding, then shop Hush and support a local boutique. If you’re simply in the mood for a little shopping, then go check out Shout for the latest trends. You can visit them at 101-99 Osborne Street (conveniently right beside Kawaii Crepe..).

Loka

Located at 1444 Corydon Avenue, Loka carries gorgeous pieces of apparel, footwear, accessories, and handbags. If you’re doing a little Corydon shopping, make sure to check out some of Loka’s newest collection! Below I’ve included a few of my favourite garments that Loka is currently offering for purchase.

Luxe Label

Although a pricier boutique, I couldn’t not include Luxe Label’s gorgeous apparel. At their location at Unit 4- 1735 Corydon Avenue, Luxe Label offers the latest trends through their garment, jewelry, footwear, and handbag collections. Attached below are some of my picks from their current stock.

Bonus– Pine Ridge Hollow

Ahhh. With Pine Ridge Hollow being my FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH, I couldn’t not include it in this post. Although not technically inside the Winnipeg perimeter (as it’s located within Bird’s Hill Provincial Park), Pine Ridge Hollow offers gorgeous garments through the label “Lavish”. You can find Lavish on the upper floor of their gift shop, or through the link I’ve provided.  While you’re visiting, you might as well sit down for a bite to eat and visit the animals in their petting zoo (Fern the pig’s a cutie). Below I’ve attached various pieces from the Lavish line that I wish were currently residing in my closet.

10 Cheap Autumn Date Ideas

Mitch and I (alright, mostly myself) have become extremely frugal on our pursuit in buying a house. In order to keep the romance alive without breaking the bank we’ve come up with a list of cheap date ideas (that do not include Netflix). This one in particular is catered towards Autumn, as I adore seasonal activities. Enjoy!

  1. Horseback Riding. Oh how I love the colours in the fall, and what better way to enjoy them than taking a gander by horseback.  According to Bird’s Hill Provincial Park Ranch, $25 can get you an hour trail ride AND a steak dinner. I realize this isn’t necessarily the “cheapest” cheap date, but I couldn’t not include it.
  1. Picnic. Why not pack up a blanket and basket and head on down to a visually appealing location for a picnic with the one you love!  Picnics are possibly my favourite date; not only do you get to spend quality time with your love in a beautiful setting, but you also get to do it for little to no cost.  I suggest choosing a clearing next to a body of water if possible. We typically take our picnics to River Road, but we occasionally picnic at the cabin as well.
  1. Bike Rides. What a great way to both spend quality time with each other and exercise.  We personally enjoy biking in Birds Hill Provincial Park.  The colourful autumn leaves falling amongst you is mesmerizing.  Don’t have your own bike? Rent one! “Bee 2gether Bikes” rents bikes by the hour at the Forks’ Market in Winnipeg. You can score a cute tandem bike for $20 an hour, perfect for a date!
  1. Pine Ridge Hollow. Okay this one is particularly specific as it’s my all time favourite restaurant.  If you’ve never been there, it’s located both just off of Garven Road and within Bird’s Hill Provincial Park. I find it to be the most beautiful in the Autumn months, as the surroundings are so cozy and colourful.  Here you’re able to enjoy a meal off of their delicious menu- that has been prepared by a phenomenal chef.  Or, if you’re looking for a less expensive option, then I recommend visiting their petting zoo and browsing their furniture shop.  They always carry the most intriguing home furnishings; I fall in love with something every time I step foot in there.  And their animals are the cutest- make sure to check out the baby goats if you do visit.
  1. Attend Amateur Football Games. Oh how I love football games in the fall. There’s just something about the chilly air and hot cocoa that make the games so enjoyable.  Most of the time admittance is free to amateur football league games.  It’s the perfect excuse to cozy up together with a big blanket on the stands! Ratherdsc05292-2 be the one playing the sport? Play football together; tackling each other in the leaves.
  1. Visit Local Pet Shops. Mitch and I have been doing this for years now and it’s still our go to activity. If neither of us can think of an outing, we’ll just head to Petland. Over the years I think we’ve probably visited every pet shop in Manitoba and Ontario, and each time we leave the pet shop heart broken that we can’t take another animal home. This is a great date idea for the couple that loves animals!
  1. Read a Book Together. Each evening after we’ve brushed our teeth and washed our faces, Mitch and I cuddle up in bed and read a book together.  Currently, we’re reading the Wealthy Barber’s second novel “The Wealthy Barber Returns” (which I highly recommend- visit the finance page for more details regarding this book and author).  By reading a book together we are able to expand our individual knowledge- simultaneously.
  1. Feed the Ducks. Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg has a lovely area for feeding the ducks.  Pack up some appropriate duck food (I hear that bread isn’t the healthiest option for ducks- so opt for grapes instead) and visit the park! Spend the day walking around with each other; viewing all the beautiful gardens and fall colDSC04829-2.jpgours that the park has to offer.  Why not create a large leaf pile to jump in while you’re at it!
  1. Have a Bonfire. Yet another one of my favourite fall activities. Make a fire to cuddle up to either in your yard, or at the local park. You can spend the night cuddled up telling spooky stories. Don’t forget to pack some s’more ingredients!
  1. Do Crafts Together. In lieu of Halloween, find some crafts you can do together.  In addition to our annual pumpkin carving tradition, we also incorporated pumpkin painting to our Halloween festivities. I recommend you to give this one a shot!
