So this past spring I had the opportunity to participate in a photoshoot a little (a lot) different from my usual. I mean yes, the shoot still involved stunning dresses, but apart from that, everything was farrr from the average. That’s right ladies and gents, I had the opportunity to model as a bride for Local Love’s upcoming wedding event (but don’t get any ideas Mitch). And because I LOVE local talent and anything bridal, I figured I’d interview the people behind Local Love events themselves. Keep reading for the full ten questions and for the info on how to win some tickets for the next Winnipeg event!!
*Also, disclaimer: Mitch is not in these photos, but not for any reason other than because of the model selections.
1. What inspired the creation of Local Love?
Amy Bohn founded Local Love in 2015 in an effort to provide smaller vendors with an affordable fair to showcase their work, and connect with brides and bridal parties looking for a more intimate and unique experience.
2. Define the purpose behind Local Love events.
Our goal is to offer a curated boutique style wedding event that caters to the bride who has a specific vision. We also want to support our vendors by offering a low-cost entry in order for them to spend their marketing dollars effectively on promoting their business.
Local Love was founded to offer an alternative to the traditional and larger bridal fairs. These boutique events are designed to provide a platform for vendors to showcase their unique talents and local businesses in some amazing venues. Our events provide attendees with a truly unique experience where they can check all items off their wedding “to-dos” from locally crafted products to services. Our wedding themed events not only focus on the bride and groom, but the wedding party and guests! Attendees can be confident that each Local Love event will be inspirational, filled with current trends, and vendors.
3. In what cities are you currently located?
We currently host our bi-annual events in Edmonton + Winnipeg. Our founder Amy currently lives in Edmonton. Born and raised in Manitoba, Winnipeg was the natural location to expand. Her cousin Brittany is a natural people person and loves all things “wedding” so it was a great partnership.
4. Do you plan on expanding Local Love’s venue cities anytime soon?
We have had a successful event in Saskatoon and are currently planning Winter 2019.
5. What makes Local Love events different from other similar wedding shows?
We offer a curated style event that is much more relaxed, for both vendors and the attendees. We want our guests to feel inspired when making the decisions for their big day!
6. What is your creative process for your promotional shoots?
The creative process for our promotional shoots is really up to the event designer. Once we have an event designer on board (who is also a vendor participating in the show), we pair them up with a photographer, a florist, a rentals company, and any other vendors participating in the show that wish to participate. Then, they all work together to create a beautiful photoshoot.
7. In what ways do you support local vendors?
We feel that we support local vendors by providing them with a platform to showcase their business at a reasonable price point. Many local vendors are unable to afford the price point of the traditional and larger bridal fairs. We find a lot of the smaller local vendors are the hidden gems that are tougher for brides to find!
8. Why should Winnipeg vendors choose to promote through Local Love?
Our event is meant to be a more intimate experience for the attendees as well as the vendors. We want our event to be a place where vendors and brides can spend the time talking about their visions, and how they see themselves working together.
9. Where do you wish to see Local Love in 5 years’ time?
We’d love to bring our unique wedding event to other cities in Western Canada. We’re focusing on our bi-annual events and building relationships within the wedding industry.
10. Give us some details about your next Winnipeg Local Love event. Where is it located? When is it held? How can vendors sign up? How and when can brides purchase their tickets?
