Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple Spring/ Summer seasons, then you’ve probably noticed the trend that’s been continually growing in popularity… and that can be seen on almost every fashion blogger’s arm (guilty). Straw bags are now more than just a beach accessory, and I couldn’t be happier. I find that straw is just such a unique medium to create Spring and Summer fashion with. It’s been so much fun playing around experimenting and incorporating straw bags into different looks. And they are surprisingly so versatile too, like I even want to go to the extent of saying that every girl needs a CST in her life. Kinda like a LBD (little black dress), but a “cute straw tote” instead. You know what I’m saying?
For this post, I had the pleasure of partnering with Ilala and Jorja Coral Photography to bring you these two distinct looks incorporating two of Ilala’s stunning straw clutches. Ilala is a brand that carries a variety of handcrafted products and accessories which are created with sustainable and eco-friendly materials. All of their clutches/ bags/ totes are handwoven by artisans, making each one a true original. And what girl doesn’t want to say she has an original fashion piece? Finding their inspiration from Native Asian culture and artisans, Ilala ensures to give back to the artistry where their designs have originated, all while promoting their timeless pieces.
Today I’ll be sharing two different looks with you that both somehow incorporate this season’s straw bag trend. The first look is more casual and would be perfect for a girls’ patio gossip session ( because who doesn’t love patio season!) or maybe a carnival date with your bae. The second look I’ve catered more as a bridal style, as I personally think the second clutch would be an absolutely gorgeous addition for a bride on her wedding day, or even for a guest at a summer wedding. The floral details practically scream summer love. You’ll definitely see what I mean below!
Honestly I’m still not over how fun this shoot was! Because I insisted on shooting at a fair this summer, Jorja, Mitch, and I took a mini road trip out to Morris for their annual Morris Stampede, stopping at cute prairie fields along the way.
I rarely post edgy looks; I guess they’re just not really my signature style, but today I wanted to mix it up a bit! By pairing a simple black bodysuit with a rough hemmed jean skirt I instantly created a 90’s vibe. Now there was a point in time where I questioned all things 90’s related. Why the parachute pants? Is it really necessary to go bra-less? And why did my mother think it was okay to dress me like this ———->
Yes, that is me. And no, I did not consent to those sunnies. Honestly, it really is a miracle that I ended up becoming a fashion blogger after the 90’s disaster. But now I’ve taken a complete 180. I mean I still find a few things (okay, more than a few things) a bit odd about that decade, but as for the no bras and jean skirts go? I’m all game! Speaking of jean skirts; I especially love the high/ low asymmetrical detail on mine. I had actually purchased a different jean skirt from ASOS prior to purchasing the one shown; however, the one from ASOS was SO ridiculously short in the back! Clearly, I was more than excited when I discovered Dynamite‘s longer version.
I am so in love with this pattern, and the olive green accent makes it perfect to carry over into the fall season. It’s definitely a decent sized clutch as well; when I transferred all of my belongings over from my bag, I was able to fit everything I needed. Which is actually quite impressive, because girls have a ton of “necessary” things with them at all times.
For the above picture, the carnie at this particular game felt that our shot was incomplete without the addition of this blue monkey- and clearly, I couldn’t have been any happier about my new found friend. But monkeying around aside, I am so in love with how this clutch perfectly managed to pull my entire look together!
As I had previously stated, for the second look I wanted to portray a bridal vibe and showcase the versatility of Ilala’s straw clutches. And luckily on our way to Morden, Jorja and I found the quaintest church situated right in the middle of two highways. If you’re from Manitoba, then you might know which church it is that I’m talking about. But either way, could this shoot get any more perfect?
Just look at the gorgeous detailing on this clutch! From the handwoven straw, to the gorgeous floral print; it’s hard to see how it could be any more perfect. I’ll definitely be having this timeless clutch by my side throughout the 2017 summer wedding season!
Seriously bride to be’s, how can you resist; I wish I had my own upcoming wedding just so I could rock this clutch!

All in all, I am SO in love with my handwoven clutches; and I’ve literally been sporting them everywhere all summer. If you’re having a bit of clutch envy, then definitely go check out Ilala for more straw goodness! Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts about these looks, so let me know in the comments!
