One of Spring’s biggest up and coming trends is that of gingham. Of course gingham has been runway popular for the past few S/S seasons; however, I find it to be a particularly highlighted trend this 2017 season. I could be wrong, but I feel as if gingham is one of those patterns that you either love or hate with no in between. For myself personally, I absolutely love the print and am overjoyed to see Dorothy’s signature look returning to street wear. But, on the other hand, I can understand people’s interpretation of the pattern as a wearable table cloth. I suppose that’s the beauty of individuality within current trends. Same goes for various other patterns and prints. For instance, I find it funny that I’m a huge fan of gingham, but I wouldn’t dare be caught wearing plaid outside of the bedroom- when both patterns are so similar in style and on trend.
For today’s outfits, Jorja and I spent the afternoon at Fort Whyte Alive to bring you this picnic inspired shoot. As I wanted to style two different gingham looks for this post, and didn’t think of where I’d be able to change at Fort Whyte, I ended up changing in the outdoor teepee they had set up. Now I have changed in a lot of very strange locations for shoots, but none quite as strange as a public teepee. Haha. Either way, our shoots always lead to an adventure and I love it.
Look #1- Gingham Picnic
For the first look, I was inspired by the picnic-like pattern of the ensemble, and went ahead with a themed shoot. Call me cheesy, but I really love how these photos turned out (thanks again, Jorja!). By pairing this co-ord look with a pair of nude block heels, I was able to create the perfect summer picnic ensemble. Oh! And of course I included a basket and tulips. Well, they were tulips before all of the petals decided to fall off en route to Fort Whyte..
Check out the photos below for the full look!
Look #2- Railway Gingham
If you haven’t already noticed, I felt extra creative (Mitch would instead use the words cheesy or quirky) while writing this post, and decided to create a themed title for each look. Ie: the “Railway Gingham” and the “Picnic Gingham”. Hate me for it if you will, but I think it’s kind of cute!
So, for this “Railway Gingham” look, I paired a high neck gingham printed dress with my JORD wood watch, and the same nude mid heels that I’ve been sporting non-stop this Spring. I’ll link the details for the watch here. I have been all about high necklines this season, as they create such an elegant Victorian detail. I find them to be so feminine; yet, so strong at the same time- because girls are SUPER strong! I’ll be posting a lot more of this trendy cut, so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any posts!
While at Fort Whyte Alive, Jorja and I stumbled across an old abandoned railway in the midst of the forest. Well, we couldn’t not shoot there with it’s rustically historic charm; it practically screamed the perfect photoshoot location! See for yourself below.
