Trend Alert F/W 2016/17: Masculine Silhouettes

As seen on many runways this Fall/ Winter 2016/17 season, masculinity has been showcased throughout various women’s lines. Labels such as Burberry, Balenciaga, and Ralph Lauren have been inspired by rough, broads cuts- and so have I. There’s something about the edgy addition of masculine garments that easily enhances a look. I absolutely love to use my boyfriend’s over coats and blazers along with my ultra feminine attire to create soft touches of masculinity (thanks Mitch). This is such an easy way to step up your look this fall/ winter, and it also serves as a practical garment for those chillier days.

As pictured below, coats from Burberry, Ralph Lauren, and Balenciaga’s F/W 2016/17 lines demonstrate masculine silhouettes. I love Burberry’s classic take on this winter closet staple. The length and hem of the garment emit classic femininity, while the broadened shoulders welcome masculinity into the piece.  Ralph Lauren takes the inclusion of masculinity up a notch by incorporating a tie into the look.  As you may have already noted, both Ralph Lauren and Balenciaga have incorporated similar tartan patterns into into their suits; tartan being another major trend this Fall/ Winter season.  Not only does the tartan pattern accommodate to the masculine theme, but it also creates depth to the outfit as a whole (like most patterns tend to do).  Thus, creating a more interesting and detailed ensemble.

If you’re like me and saddened by the price of these brilliant designers, then look no further. Below I’ve taken the liberty of selecting various masculine inspired garments to cater to those of you who are also on a budget. Enjoy!
