All in the Details

The secret to elevating an outfit from a level 8 to a level 10 is all in the details. Even on my laziest days I always ensure to add a few minimalistic touches to my apparel. For instance, I keep a small box of jewelry in my washroom vanity for those “I slept in the extra 10 minutes when I really shouldn’t have” mornings. I’ll typically throw on (does one throw jewelry on?) three very simple gold rings, a watch, and maybe some earrings. I also ensure to have my nails done and chip free at all times- I realize this isn’t a quick last minute fix, but it is something to think of the evening prior. If you simply don’t have spare time to have your nails re-done (trust me, I’ve been there) then at least keep them trimmed and filed, it’ll make a huge difference to your overall look.  Apart from my jewelry trick, my top secrets to instantly elevate an outfit is to incorporate a) cute shoes b) a killer hat or c) a trendy coat.

Cute shoes. Do I really need to elaborate? What a simple way to instantly improve your outfit. Rushed out the door? Just grab the cutest shoes in sight! There is nothing that uplifts your outfit (style wise and height wise) than a classic pair of pumps. My go-to pumps are always either nude or black in shade, dependant on the season and outfit. I realize it’s more difficult to add a quick heel to your look in Canadian winters, which is why I recommend always having some cute and stand out winter booties. And hey, for the gals who aren’t too keen on sporting heels, there are still some great statement flats that you can add to your look- such as the above pictured block heeled loafers.

If you’re having a bad hair day, definitely opt for the hat. Yet another one of my “lazy girl hacks” is to add a cute hat to my look; making it seem as if I’ve put a ton of effort into my style.. When really, it’s just a quick fix to cover the messy bed head. Literally life saving, trust me.

As a resident of Canada, it is essential to invest in a warm and trendy winter coat. It is one of those pieces necessary to splurge on. Not only does it effortlessly up your look, but without it you can’t even walk from your house to your car without freezing half to death.  I realize that coats can be quite pricey, which is why I recommend investing in one of higher quality.  Yes, it will be on the more expensive side in the short run, but it will last for more winters in the long run (saving you money). I’ve found some of my favourite coats through labels including Reformation, Club Monaco, Aritzia, Banana Republic, BCBG Max Azria, and even Winners!  Now, before the snow comes, is the time to purchase a new coat if you’re in need of one.
